The Secret of Prayer
Haanel, in Part 21 of the Master Key, says
We know that the universe is governed by law; that for every effect there must be a cause, and that the same cause, under the same conditions, will invariably produce the same effect. Consequently, if prayer has ever been answered, it will always be answered, if the proper conditions are complied with. This must necessarily be true; otherwise the universe would be a chaos instead of a cosmos. The answer to prayer is therefore subject to law, and this law is definite, exact and scientific, just as are the laws governing gravitation and electricity. An understanding of this law takes the foundation of Christianity out of the realm of superstition and credulity and places it upon the firm rock of scientific understanding. But, unfortunately, there are comparatively few persons who know how to pray. [emphasis added]
Jesus, in Mark 11:24, says Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.
Do you see the timeline here? When we pray, we do not yet have the thing for which we pray (or there would be no need to pray). We are to believe that we receive them (now, not in the future) even though we still don’t have them. But, we are told, if we can do this (believe in the present tense), we certainly shall (in the future) have them.
We are told in Hebrews 11:1 – Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. [emphasis added]
So, we see that faith is both substance and evidence. We are told that “God, … [quickens] the dead, and [calls] those things which be not as though they were.” (Romans 4:17) And we are told that we are in the likeness of God. For that reason, we are capable of believing we receive now. We can also call those things which be not (yet) as though they are. And we know that they shall be.
Jesus said (Mark 11:23): For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. [emphasis added]
We were asked this week to concentrate on the truth that omnipotence is omnipresent. When we actually grasp the fact that we have been entrusted with the power to control the world without by controlling the world within, it is truly frightening. The conditions of answered prayer are that the object desired is good for us and does not take someone else’s good. That we do not doubt in our heart but believe what we say will come to pass, We can call those things that be not (the person you want to become) as though they exist. We speak in the present tense (we believe when we pray) and then we receive in the future (shall have them).
This is scientifically exact if we dare to believe it. That is why the affirmation “I am whole, perfect, strong, powerful, loving, harmonious and happy” can create the conditions called for.
In Paragraph 27, Haanel sums up the concept:
The Divine Mind is the Universal Mind; it makes no exceptions, it plays no favorites; it does not act through sheer caprice or from anger, jealousy or wrath; neither can it be flattered, cajoled or moved by sympathy or petition to supply man with some need which he thinks necessary for his happiness or even his existence. The Divine Mind makes no exceptions to favor any individual; but when the individual understands and realizes his Unity with the Universal principle he will appear to be favored because he will have found the source of all health, all wealth, and all power.
Peace be the journey. You are nature’s greatest miracle.
