Induction is a Scientific Method of Thinking
In Part 13, Haanel tells us about inductive reasoning, or Induction. He says it is why the dreams of the dreamers come true. It explains the law of causation by which dreamers, authors, inventors and financiers bring about the realization of their desires. He emphasizes the need for careful observation. One thing we observe is thatthere is a Universal Substance, which we call the Infinite,
We are integral parts of the whole. Because we are spirit, we are connected via spirit to each other. We are the same in substance, in quality, in kind. The above illustration crudely depicts that situation. Obviously, the Infinite is larger than I could illustrate here. And, just as obvious, there are more individuals than the three shown. The scale is completely off, but the point is that we are "stuck" together. We differ only in degree from the Infinite. The illustration is spiritual. It does not account for our soul or body or even the objective world.
If I were able to draw in more than two dimensions, perhaps it would be more clear. Imagine this way. The Spirit connects to the Universal Spirit and transmits from the Infinite to the finite mind. The mind provides the interface between spirit and body. The body provides the interface between mind and the objective world. If a proper image is formed in the mind, power flows from the Infinite through the spirit to form a circuit. Then the Law of Growth goes into effect. This next illustration is still crude, but gives a visual to the abstract.
James Kimber had a revelation about there being no point at which the Infinite ends and we begin. Read the whole thing here. This next illustration attempts to depict that fact for one person.
We know from our studies so far that there is a subjective world which is invisible to us except through our imagination. There is an objective world which we can see, touch, smell. etc. In the objective world there are both organic and inorganic objects. We learned in a previous lesson that there is an impermeable barrier between the two. Life arises from preexisting life.
Similarly there is a barrier between the Natural World and the Spiritual World. The one-way flow here is from the spirit to the natural. As Haanel says, thought is a spiritual activity and we can only form the circuit when our thought aligns with the Infinite.
25. In creating a Mental Image or an Ideal, we are projecting a thought into the Universal Substance from which all things are created. This Universal Substance is Omnipresent, Omnipotent and Omniscient. Are we to inform the Omniscient as to the proper channel to be used to materialize our demand? Can the finite advise the Infinite? This is the cause of failure; of every failure. We recognize the Omnipresence of the Universal Substance, but we fail to appreciate the fact that this substance is not only Omnipresent, but is Omnipotent and Omniscient, and consequently will set causes in motion concerning which we may be entirely ignorant.
